SCBWI BookStop is here and runs through November 30. The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators have created this great way to promote new book for the 2017 calendar year (previously called Book Blast)! Last year over 800 SCBWI members created pages and 50,000 pageviews put their books in front of book readers and buyers for the fall season.
Visit the page I've created for my latest picture book, Tamara Turtle's Life So Far, and please check out all the other traditionally and independently published books available this year.
Remember to leave me a guest book message when you visit Tamara's Book Stop Page, so I know you "dropped by"!
This October 22nd I will be walking the 5k Scotiabank Waterfront Race! I'm supporting the Toronto Humane Society. Please, if you can, head on over to my sponsor page and donate a little something to my campaign. I love helping rescue animals whenever I can and appreciate any amount you can give. :)
We had a good time at Word on the Street at Harbourfront this past Sunday. We sold copies of Beverlee Beaz the Brown Burmese (Cricket Cottage Publishing) Sloth the Lazy Dragon (Guardian Angel Publishing) and Tamara Turtle's Life So Far (Mirror Publishing). Today, we'll be drawing names to find out who the winner of Space Zombies! and the Space Zombies: 13 Months of Brain-Spinning Mayhem! DVD will be, as well as the winner of the Trilogy of Horrifically Half-Baked Ham!
I also enjoyed visiting with my publishers (of Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast, coming soon!) Mirror World Publishing. I think they may have suffered from the record-breaking heat a wee bit more than we did, as we were in a reasonably shady spot for the afternoon portion of the event.
Thanks so much Alex and Kev for being on hand to help me out and sign books! Alex illustrated Beverlee Beaz the Brown Burmese and Sloth the Lazy Dragon (and is currently working on Merry Myrrh: The Christmas Bat, to be published at a date TBA by Guardian Angel Publishing). Kev co-wrote They Suck with me, as well as providing the cover illustrations, and he co-wrote the Space Zombies! screenplay (he is also illustrating Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast, to be published by Mirror World Publishing at the end of 2018, and co-wrote Libby the Lobivia Jajoiana, currently being illustrated by Gordon Bagshaw and to be published at a date TBA by Guardian Angel Publishing).
My Dad passed away September 13th. He was a gentle, soft-spoken and intelligent man. I will miss him very much. He is survived by his wife, a son, Andrew, a step-son, Derek, and a granddaughter, as well as nieces, Tracey and Sarah, and their families. My husband, family on my side, as well as on Derek's side and friends will miss him as well.
Tom was a snare drummer with Grantham in St. Catharines and later the Commanders in Toronto. He was an electrical engineer and managed Whitby Hydro for many years. In his later years he also became a lawyer with his own practice in Whitby. He played a lot of tennis when I was a little girl. He seemed to appreciate my writing skills and always thought I got that talent from his side of the family. Most importantly, he was a big fan of Tolkien, particularly The Lord of the Rings.
Here's a memorial post on the Optimists Alumni (drum corps) website, of which my Dad was a member: www.optimists-alumni.org/index.htm
More lovely pictures of Spartacus (the ginormous Red-eared Slider), celebrity turtle extraordinaire, whom we shared a booth with at the Canadian Pet Expo ... as well as some pictures of turtles available for adoption!
I also picked up this bandana from Little RES Q for Raxl, so she can support rescue turtles, too!
Here's another review of Tamara as well. It was posted back in July:
“Tamara Turtle is adopted as a cute pet when she's a baby, but eventually grows so big she's turned loose into a dangerous world to fend for herself. By writing this book Regan W. H. Macaulay has made it possible for kids to understand and sympathize with the many turtles who are in similar situations. This book has a happy ending, and I hope it will help kids understand that it's not a good idea to have turtles as pets, and maybe inspire some of them to check out the agencies listed at the back that help turtle rehabilitation. The illustrations by Javier Duarte are excellent.”

We had a wonderful time at the Canadian Pet Expo with Little RES Q this past weekend!
Thank you so much to Little RES Q for letting us share your booth. Thank you to the Canadian Pet Expo for giving us a chance to perform a reading of the book on a fantastic stage (and thank you Safari Jeff for the use of and help with your equipment). And thank you Gillian and Kevin for helping me sell the books - all proceeds from the launch went to Little RES Q. An extra thank you to Kevin for running back and forth between the kids, showing the pictures as I read the book on Saturday!
Next stop ... Toronto's Word on the Street Fest at Harbourfront Sunday September 24th! Copies of all my books, including Tamara, will be available at special discount prices - don't miss it!
I'll be doing a reading of "Tamara Turtle's Life So Far" at the Canadian Pet Expo this Saturday at 11:45am in Hall 2! https://canadianpetexpo.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/2017-Fall-CPE-Schedule.pdf
