These are the many "sample" faces of Libby, a Lobivia Jajoiana cactus plant, and main character from our most recently accepted picture storybook! Click on any of the images to get a better look.
My husband, Kevin Risk and I co-wrote Libby the Lobivia Jajoiana a number of years ago and have been revising it on and off ever since. Last year Gordon Bagshaw (author and illustrator of the Frodo the Sheltie comic strip series, and the illustrator for Sleepy Time for Mammals) came on board as our fabulous illustrator, and this year, Guardian Angel Publishing accepted Libby for publication (at a date to be announced)!
Summary: Libby is a cactus plant with self-esteem issues. After Violet moves in next to her on the windowsill, Libby learns that perceived flaws, which make her feel different and weird, can be her best characteristic.
Here it is! The cover for Tamara Turtle's Life So Far...which should be released later in THIS SUMMER! I also hope to officially launch the book in September, and you'll also be able to get a copy at the 2017 Word on the Street Festival Toronto (Sunday September 24 at Harbourfront Centre).
CHANDLER, AZ (June, 2017) – The judges of the Purple Dragonfly Book Awards contest, which recognizes excellence in children’s literature, have spoken, and Sloth the Lazy Dragon by Regan W. H. Macaulay, illustrated by Alex Zgud, won 2nd place in the Health category.
“Winning any place in the Purple Dragonfly Contest is a huge honor because in order to maintain the integrity of the Dragonfly Book Awards, a minimum score is required before a First or Second place or Honorable Mention will be awarded to the entrant – even if it is the sole entry in a category,” explains Linda F. Radke, president of Story Monsters LLC, the sponsor of the Dragonfly Book Awards. “Competition is steep, too, because there is no publication date limit as long as the book is still in print.”
Sloth the Lazy Dragon: Sloth is a lazy and overweight dragon taking up space atop of a hoard of gold and jewels within a mountain inhabited by dwarves. One dwarf helps Sloth lose weight through diet and exercise. The grateful dragon, now able to fly, leaves the dwarf and his people a special gift. It retails for $10.95 (softcover), $19.95 (hardcover) and $5.00 for the e-book (all prices in USD - may vary depending on the store) and can be purchased at Guardian Angel Publishing, Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Barnes & Noble, Chapters Indigo online (and as of the evening of Wednesday the 14th, in store at Indigo Yonge & Eglinton Centre), Google Books, Vancouver Kidsbooks and in person at Owl's Hollow (PEI).
For a complete list of winners, visit www.dragonflybookawards.com.
The next Purple Dragonfly Book Awards contest is already underway. Final deadline for submissions is May 1, 2018. The final deadline for the Royal Dragonfly Book Awards Contest, which recognizes outstanding literature in all genres, is October 1, 2017. Is your book or product Story Monsters Approved? Kids know when they see the Story Monsters Approved seal it means children their own age enjoyed the book or product and are recommending it, too. How do they know that? Because after books and products pass the first round of judging by industry experts, they are then sent to a panel of youth judges who must also endorse the books or products before they can receive the official seal of approval. Kid-tested and judge-certified! There is no deadline for the Story Monsters Approved program. Books are sent for judging as they are received. For complete rules and submission forms for either contest, visit www.dragonflybookawards.com and click on the contest of choice.

BOOK 3 of the Trilogy of Horrifically Half-Baked Ham: Horror at Terror Creek is a novella based on the play by the same name. Grad student Fanny Punn is studying an antiquated town called Terror Creek. She hopes to unearth the reasons why all surrounding villages have failed over the centuries, while Terror Creek thrives. At the Athame Inn in the centre of town, Fanny meets a peculiar cast of characters. The innkeeper, Ligeia, is also a Satanic High Priestess. Dr. Audley Salmon is the resident mad scientist toiling in his mysterious lab in the basement. The inn’s maid is mute and its bellboy speaks like a poor man’s Poe. It is here, among this motley coven of curious eccentrics, that Fanny stumbles onto a series of startling secrets, sealing not only her fate, but the fate of her friends...forevermore.
Buy your copy of Horror at Terror Creek from Lulu (and soon...Amazon!)
At last, the Trilogy of Horrifically Half-baked Ham is complete and the publication of my latest novella adaptation (of my play by the same name) will be released THIS MAY 16TH!
The novelization of the play by me with music by Scott McCord will be available through Lulu and Amazon! Check back for updates and links.
Fanny Punn, grad student, is working on her thesis - a study of an antiquated town called Terror Creek. For some reason, all the surrounding villages have failed, turning into ghost towns while Terror Creek thrives. At the Athame Inn, Fanny meets many a peculiar character: Ligeia, Satanic High Priestess; Dr. Audley Salmon, resident mad scientist; Raven, the mute maid; and Edgar, the bellboy who speaks like a poor man's Poe. Here, Fanny stumbles onto a startling secret, sealing her fate, and the fate of her friends, forevermore.
What is this Trilogy of Horrifically Half-baked Ham, you ask? Why, it starts with Space Zombies! (the novelette adaptation of the film script by moi and Kevin Risk), continues with They Suck (written by both the Regan T. M. Pazuzu version of me and Kevin Risk - WARNING, this one's explicit with comic gore and sexuality) and concludes with this latest "chapter" - Horror at Terror Creek! Be sure to listen to a recording of the song included in Horror at Terror Creek, Christopher's Turn, on our News page.
You'll also be able to purchase all three books from the Trilogy of Horrifically Half-baked Ham once Horror at Terror Creek is released on the 16th (through my online Square shop and through Triple Take's online shop).
And since the They Suck online launch party resulted in quite a wicked little script, we'll be doing another online launch for Horror at Terror Creek on Facebook - it will be another online performance resulting in a doubtlessly kooky script to be posted on the Triple Take website, as well my Regan T. M. Pazuzu's author website, where you can find the They Suck online launch party script. Watch for the event page on Facebook in June! Join us on the event page on the date of the launch (TBA) and refresh the discussion screen to watch a script/performance/party unfold before your eyes! And participate! You can be part of the script/performance/party!
Javier Duarte is the new illustrator for my picture book, Tamara Turtle's Life So Far, to be published this year by Mirror Publishing! Check out his wonderful artwork HERE. I hope to "reveal" some of his artwork and/or the cover for Tamara prior to its publication, so be sure to check back.
Here are a few books published by Mirror Publishing that Javier has illustrated:
And don't worry, Kevin Risk is still illustrating for me! He needs to focus on one project - Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast, to be published by Mirror World Publishing in late 2018.
I wanted to post about and link to a recent article about the whole history of Hammy Hamster - from "Tales From the Riverbank" (1959) to "Hammy Hamster's Adventures on the Riverbank" (1972 - syndicated in the early 80s, which is when people my age first watched the show when we were little) to the most recent version, "Once Upon A Hamster" which I was privileged to work on as one of the Animal Wranglers and as the specially designated Animal Care Specialist during Season 3!
Check out the original Toronto Star article HERE! I'm currently looking into where to find the series on DVD (particularly "Once Upon a Hamster") and will post follow up information soon...
